First flight with a baby – list of necessary items and tips on how to survive

First flight with a child might be very stressful for parents. Even if parents fly often, travel with a baby is completely different. Usually parent wonder how to survive a flight with a child, what stroller choose for a travel, what food bring on board for the baby, where change a diaper on the plane and of course sometimes they worry that other passengers will dart angry glances at them. When I was flying for the first time with my babies I was pretty nervous. However, the journey was very calm and our family (and other passengers sitting next to us) survived J

Here are few things that can be useful during travel by plane with a baby.

  • Baby carrier or baby wraps – they are useful for carrying baby during a flight or for transition from the airport to airplane. Especially if your stroller goes to registered baggage compartment.
  • Food – if you are still breastfeeding you don’t need to worry J Just wear convenient clothes and take a blanket or something like that, because you will be breastfeeding while surrounded by strangers. If you have a toddler who eat solids rather than milk, you should plan what he/she will eat on board.
  • Accessories for changing a diaper – you don’t know when you will have to change a diaper, especially if your flight is very long, that’s why you should bring diapers, wipes, changing pad liners and a bag for used diapers. There should be a changing table in the bathroom on airplane, but they usually are very, very small so they are suitable only for infants and rather small children.
  • Accessories that will calm the baby – sometimes baby cry a lot during flights, which might be caused by ear pain. That’s why you should have a soother or a sippy cup within reach. Also, bring your baby’s favorite toy or something that calms your baby.
